Dental Implants: A Very Promising Solution for Missing or Extracted Teeth
Grandma always said that Uncle Joe was half Scottish and half Jack-O-Lantern. Joe was a farmer who had a couple of his front teeth knocked out by a cantankerous mule. She said they all tried to get him to see a dentist, but Joe would say he didn’t have time. He sure didn’t want to fiddle with false teeth. Too bad dental implants weren’t available back in the day for old Uncle Joe. He not only would he have had a full set of beautiful teeth that he wouldn’t have to “fiddle” with, but also may have been able to find himself a wife!
What are Dental Implants
According to Dr. Will Taylor of Martin-Taylor Dentistry in Tucson, there are times when a tooth is missing or a tooth needs to be extracted because it cannot be saved. A dental implant offers a terrific option as to what can be done with the empty space or spaces left behind. The implant itself is a titanium post/screw device that is placed directly into the bone of the jaw. After the bone adheres to the implant, which takes about four months, a crown or bridge can be attached. Once in place they do not have to be removed but are cleaned and maintained just like natural teeth. Dr. Taylor states it’s the closest replacement of a natural tooth available.
Amazingly, the cost of the basic dental implant procedure at Martin -Taylor Dentistry is about the same price as a bridge, which makes it a very affordable option.
Mini Dental Implants Perfect for Dentures and Large Bridges
Another type of dental implant that most people don’t know about is what Dr. Taylor calls, “mini dental implants.” For dentures a few mini implants can be used to attach the dental work much more effectively than old fashioned, gooey adhesives. The dentures can still be removed for cleaning, but they are much more secure when in place.
Most patients find that once they have their dentures attached with these mini dental implants, they can finally eat steak or corn on the cob without fear that their dentures will come loose or fall out. Dr. Taylor has found that many patients come in because their loose dentures have caused painful irritation to the gums. Those folks may be perfect candidates for mini dental implants to stabilize and immobilize their dentures, thus easing their pain and discomfort.
Bone Grafts May Be Needed to Support Dental Implants
In some cases, there is not enough supporting bone in which to secure the implant. In many of those cases, bone grafting can be done. This is where Martin-Taylor Dentistry stands out among the rest when it comes to dental implants. Drs. Martin and Taylor are fully trained and experienced in every facet of dental implants, including the bone grafting if it’s needed. No need to go to a periodontist or oral surgeon for part of the procedure and then back to a dentist for the rest. At Martin-Taylor Dentistry, the same dentist that extracts the tooth, can do the bone grafting if it’s necessary, insert the dental implant, and place the crown, bridge or dentures.
High Success Rate
All of these services are provided by two of the very best dentists in Tucson. Dental implants have a very high success rate (~98.5%). If a tooth is missing this is an easy way to successfully replace it.
Too bad poor old Uncle Joe couldn’t have been seen at Martin-Taylor Dentistry. If he had there might have been a Mrs. and a bunch of little Joes.…
